Wearing Braces? Here’s how to care for your teeth!

If you are wearing dental braces, you may notice that not only are your teeth getting straighter, but that your oral health care routine may be a bit more complicated than you expect. It is, naturally, a bit trickier to clean your teeth properly while you’re wearing braces, but here are some quick tips to prevent your teeth from developing dental plaque while you’re wearing braces.

1. Brush your teeth after every meal. Small pieces of food will get stuck between the wires of your braces. Trapped food causes bacteria and plaque, which is why it’s essential to brush your teeth regularly to get rid of trapped food pieces between your teeth.

2. Use an electric toothbrush. Consider investing in an electric toothbrush as an electric toothbrush will not only reach the nooks and crannies in your fixed braces that a regular toothbrush might not, but an electric toothbrush has also a special mode for teeth whitening, gum massage and is suitable for patients with sensitive teeth. (Your teeth may become sensitive while wearing braces).

3. Visit your orthodontist regularly for your braces to be adjusted and for your progress to be recorded. If you have any questions in the meantime, don’t be afraid to contact HGS Ortho. We’re here to answer all of your questions.
